The Coastal Bend Business Innovation Center (CBBIC) Lobby

NCS delivers an immersive audio-visual experience that brings the latest technology to the forefront and enhances visitors’ first impression of the CBBIC.

A Catalyst for Innovative Ideas and Economic Growth

Launched in 2009, the CBBIC promotes cross-disciplinary academic and entrepreneurial programs across the Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi campus and for its clients and other community stakeholders. These programs include business incubation and acceleration services, seminars, workshops, and connections with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi faculty. Through the CBBIC, the university serves as a catalyst for innovative ideas and fosters economic growth by driving the entrepreneurial process and supporting the creation of sustainable, successful Coastal Bend businesses at every development level.

Since its creation, the center has had hundreds of clients, producing cumulative gross revenues in excess of $20 million. The CBBIC provides client companies and startups with access to office space, coworking space, and services such as contract business consultation in the areas of market research, accounting, finance, graphics design, social media marketing, strategic planning, and business model and business plan creation. CBBIC clients have had a major impact on job creation and economic development efforts in the Coastal Bend.

The CBBIC engaged NCS to create a more dynamic lobby space that inspires and informs visitors through multimedia content and digital technology for an audio-visual experience that is engaging, memorable, and unique. This project required understanding complex audio-visual technologies and the telecommunications technology necessary to support the CBBIC’s vision, especially for a project where innovation is at the heart of the center’s values. NCS provided guidance on the best technology hardware and software for the specific applications and the intent for the space.

The Technology Experience Starts at the Front Door

Upon entering the CBBIC, visitors are first greeted by the lobby space, where the audio-visual technology solutions, chosen for their exceptional sound and visual quality, aim to inspire, educate, and enhance the overall guest experience.

The lobby is equipped with a state-of-the-art 136-inch LG LED display to welcome visitors, share the business center’s story, and show clients’ work across the Coastal Bend. This system incorporates a custom Spectrum Industries lectern with a built-in rack, coaster, and a custom laser-cut steel school logo incorporated into the front of the podium.

When utilized as a digital event space, the common area was equipped with a Legrand AV Vaddio wide-shot stationary video camera and HuddleCamHD auto-tracking camera placed at the front and back of the room to automatically follow the presenter as they move across the room to ensure everyone in the meeting is seen and heard. The presentation can be streamed live and used with several current video conferencing platforms, such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams, to facilitate collaboration anywhere. The system is complemented with a Shure lavalier mic system and five additional wireless handheld mics for attendees to participate in the event. There is also a boundary mic on the podium for clear presenter vocals when the podium is in use. The audio is presented to everyone with the Yamaha wall-mounted line array loudspeakers mounted on either side of the LED display.

A Lasting Impression for the CBBIC

First impressions matter. The lobby sets the tone and expectations for what lies ahead. The CBBIC wanted the ultimate experience that would shape visitors’ perceptions and leave a first impression that would have a lasting impact on those engaging with the center. Through a mix of video displays, graphics, audio systems, and multimedia content, the CBBIC can communicate a personalized, immersive story to all who enter the facility while delivering a collaborative environment where innovation thrives and ideas come to fruition.
