City of Wilmer Police Department and Public Works Facilities
AI Summary: NCS served as the technology integrator for the City of Wilmer’s new Police Department and Public Works facilities, a $24.9 million project spanning two buildings. NCS delivered CommScope Cat 6A structured cabling with a fiber backbone, audiovisual systems with nearly 30 commercial displays, and an Avigilon security platform with 70+ cameras and 50+ access control portals.
The City of Wilmer sits at the center of one of the fastest growing logistics corridors in North Texas, and its public safety and city services needed room to grow with it. Wilmer Police and Public Works previously shared a facility with other city offices on North Dallas Avenue. The city’s answer was a $24.9 million project at 1200 and 1201 N. Goode Road consisting of two new facilities totaling 18,545 square feet: a public safety building and a companion public works facility, built by Steele and Freeman and designed by GSBS Architects.
The police facility features enhanced security, an expanded dispatch center, detention areas, locker rooms, and training rooms. The public works building includes updated workshops, offices, and enclosed vehicle storage, including a 5,655 square foot pre-engineered metal building. NCS served as the technology integrator for the project, delivering structured cabling, audiovisual, and security across both buildings.
Structured Cabling for a Connected Campus
NCS installed a complete CommScope structured cabling system across both facilities, giving the city one unified network foundation. The structured cabling scope included:
- 470+ CommScope Cat 6A supporting workstations, security cameras, 50+wireless access points, displays, and building systems
- Full telecommunications room buildouts at each building with Chatsworth Products (CPI) racks, CommScope patch panels, and fiber enclosures
- A singlemode fiber backbone connecting the Police Department to the Public Works building
- A CommScope powered fiber solution delivering connectivity and power to 12 site cameras around parking areas and the campus perimeter
- Certification testing of every fiber and copper link to BICSI standards, with as-built documentation delivered to the city
Audiovisual for Training, Dispatch, and Daily Operations
The AV systems give staff modern tools for briefings, training, conferencing, and day to day communication across both buildings. The audiovisual scope included:
- Nearly 30 Samsung commercial displays, ranging from 55-inch office and dayroom displays up to a 98-inch conference room display, with ten 75-inch displays serving training and briefing spaces
- Crestron DM NVX AV-over-IP distribution, routing any source to any display across the network
- Crestron 4-Series control processing with wall mount and wireless touch screens for simple one-touch operation
- Biamp Tesira digital signal processing for training room audio
- Shure wireless microphone systems and gooseneck podium microphones
- QSC and JBL loudspeakers with matching amplification
- A Crestron Flex tabletop video conferencing system for the conference room
Security Designed for a Public Safety Campus
NCS installed a unified Avigilon security platform covering both facilities, from the front entrance to the detention area. The security scope included:
- Avigilon video management software with more than 70 cameras, combining interior domes, exterior multi-sensor cameras, and purpose-built detention corner cameras
- Dedicated NVR servers recording independently at each building
- Avigilon access control securing more than 30 portals, including detention area doors, site gates, and monitored entries
- Emergency duress buttons in the detention area and key staff locations
- Surge suppression for all exterior cameras for long-term reliability
What It Means for Wilmer
For the Wilmer community, this technology works quietly in the background of every call for service. Dispatchers have clear visibility across an expanded center. Officers train and brief in rooms built for modern instruction. The detention area operates with layered camera coverage and controlled access at every door. Public works crews coordinate street, water, and fleet services from a connected facility instead of shared office space.
The fiber backbone and Cat 6A infrastructure were built with room to grow. As Wilmer’s logistics corridor continues to attract new residents and businesses, the city now has public safety and public works facilities ready to grow with them.
